WARRIOR #1: the first, the number one, Diet Warrior.
Johnny Hughes had severe chest pains while chasing his group of racers up Ranch View. He also had begun having chest pains at night while sleeping. When he related this to his Doctor-Son-In-Law, Dr. SIL said, “Go to the hospital, stat.”
They slapped him on a table with bright lights above and cut him open. A triple by-pass. Yes, the myth that fitness will protect you from heart disease and heart attacks was again busted.
Johnny Hughes is, six months later, in tip top shape. Well, he is at least alive. I related how my brother Bill had the same operation, but died ten years later, as predicted by his doctors. Congestive heart failure. He didn’t change anything about the way he lived. No, I forgot, he did stop smoking. Well, not pot. After all he did live inCalifornia. And he continued with the same “Healthy” American Diet as before.
I got Johnny a copy of Dr. Esselstyn’s book Preventing and Reversing Heart Disease. He and Vickie, his wife are faithful diet warriors now. I am not surprised. Johnny and Vickie are both intelligent, careful, and meticulous in all that they do. He says he has lost weight on the diet. It was not planned or intended. About fifteen pounds. He looks good.
Johnny saw a new doctor who endorsed his diet. His cholesterol history is:
Before surgery 189
After surgery 155 (before going on the Pl. Food Diet) on 40 mg statin
Six months later 124 (after going on the Pl. Food Diet) on 20 mg statin
He now takes a statin: 20 mg
His goal: Get off statins and maintain 135 cholesterol
Live to 110 years
